If you would like to direct a domain that you have to another domain name or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's redirected to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the website you have created, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted in your account from the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this sort of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will assist you with this task. If you have built a website via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, such as Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a hard task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each semi-dedicated hosting plan we offer, is very easy to use. If you wish to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will need to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain that you need, pick the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is quite easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it will propagate around the world. If you are not sure what you need to do, we've prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both situated in that very same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for help whenever you want.
